Blood and Marrow Drives
Believe it or not, the greatest gift one could ever give another human being is absolutely free. It’s blood! When we give blood, we give life. In case you did not know, one pint of blood can help save up to three lives. What greater gift could one bestow upon a child than a chance to live and experience all that life has to offer.
Each school day 46 children are diagnosed with cancer. One in 330 children will develop cancer by the age of 20. Cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death among children ages 1 to 14 in the United States. The most common cancers in children (ages 1 to 14) are leukemia (particularly acute lymphocytic leukemia), brain and other nervous systems cancers, soft tissue sarcomas, bone cancers, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and renal (Wilm’s) tumors, all of which are usually treated with very aggressive chemotherapy, radiation, and/or surgery. These treatments not only kill the cancer cells, but deplete the healthy white & red blood cells creating a serious need for blood in the body.
With the need of blood being so crucial in relation to the treatments as well as the survival of the patients, one of the primary goals of BrittiCares is to host annual blood and marrow drives in cooperation with various hospitals and children’s medical facilities to ensure that a child who is already suffering from a life threatening disease, does not succumb to their illness because their need for blood, platelets or marrow was not met.
Awesome News: BrittiCares is proud to announce that with the help of our amazing sponsors and blood donors, our Annual BrittiCares blood drives have helped save close to 7000 young lives!!!!
